Gauguin painting

A Vase of Flowers 1896 GAUGUIN, Paul 1848 - 1903

The Vase of flowers was painted in Tahiti, and is full of colour and shape; it is opulent and gorgeous, with the flowers at full bloom to the point of dropping their petals.

I imagine that the sent is sweet and heady. I wonder about the garden bathed in sunlight where the flowers were grown. I have picked two main colours for the jewellery, hoping to reflect the boldness of the painting and the contrasts with in it.

 The main stones, carnelian and sodalite, have a faceted cut mirroring both the light and the shapes within the painting. I softened the look by adding fresh water pearls, as a reminder of the softness of flowers.

This is a wonderful painting; a joy to rest your eyes, letting Paul Gauguin take your thoughts to the warmth and wonder of Tahiti flowers.
